Newkirk Contractor Charles Wynne Faces Felony Charges for Alleged Customer Defrauding

TFINEWS24: NEWKIRK, OKLAHOMA- Charles Lee Wynne, a 53-year-old Newkirk contractor and owner of C1 Construction, is facing three felony counts related to false pretenses and bogus check con games. Wynne has been accused of defrauding customers, including Karl Reust, Richard Hill, and Cassandra Gosvener, who claim he left their projects unfinished despite receiving significant payments.
Wynne’s troubles began on March 30th, 2024, when Reust reported that Wynne had failed to complete a house-building project in Braman despite receiving $156,000 of the agreed-upon $167,185 payment. Further complaints emerged in April from Hill and Gosvener, who claimed to have been victims of Wynne’s alleged fraudulent activities. Gosvener reported hiring Wynne for a $22,000 project to build a 12×20 bedroom with a full bathroom addition, which was left unfinished. Wynne claimed he spent the money but refused to provide any statements or proof of where the money was spent.
He has been fined by the state Construction Industries Board and was never licensed to do the type of work he contracted for. Wynne has been accused of emailing one of the alleged victims, threatening to file bankruptcy if sued. His court date has been set for August 16th, 2024 at 9:00am, and he faces three felony counts related to the alleged defrauding of customers.
The Gosvener family is seeking help to complete the unfinished room before the arrival of their new child. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family https://gofund.me/4d405643, and any contractors with leftover or used materials are encouraged to donate. This case highlights the importance of verifying contractors’ licenses and checking their reputation before hiring them for projects. It also serves as a reminder to be cautious of contractors who ask for advance payments without completing work.
